Field Track Usc
The Trojans will try to win their fifth consecutive game at Stanford Stadium when they face the No. 16 Cardinal in a Pac-10 Conference football game Saturday, Oct. 9 at Stanford, Calif. ABC will telecast the 5 p.m. PST contest, which matches 4-1 teams trying to rebound from tough defeats.
Southern Cal leads the series 59-26-3, and is 33-8-2 at Stanford. USC has lost only three times there since 1980. Stanford has won two of its last three meetings with the Trojans, including a 55-21 decision year, but hasn't topped USC at Stanford Stadium since a 32-30 win in 2000.
In 2010, both teams will enter the game 1-1 in the Pac-10. Stanford was overrun 52-31 by Oregon, which has risen to No. 3 in the national rankings. USC dropped a 32-31 decision to Washington, and fell out of the Top 25.
Southern Cal struggled even before that. Of its five games, the only comfortable one was a 50-16 victory over Washington State on Sept. 25. The Trojans have struggled to do the "little things."
Only four teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision are averaging more penalty yards per game than USC. The kicking game has been mediocre, too. In fact, the Trojans missed a 40-yard field goal that could have been the difference vs. Washington.
For Stanford, a major concern is a defense that was run ragged by Oregon's quick-hitting spread option offense. Next, Stanford must face the bruising attack of USC.
The USC Offense
USC can definitely move the ball, as it's averaging 35.8 points and 471.6 yards per game. Perhaps the Trojans could have put up bigger numbers when considering the opposition (Hawaii, Virginia, Minnesota, Washington State, Washington). But it's difficult to deny that the Trojans offense has impressive talent.
